Nigerian Copyright Institute (NCI)

 

Nigerian Copyright Institute (NCI) is an arm of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) established to engage in the teaching of Intellectual Property and Copyright related matters in Nigerian Universities and to broaden individuals' knowledge on copyright. The Institute was also established to provide qualitative training for all categories of NCC staff, stakeholders in the copyright industries and other public.

OBJECTIVES:

The Institute will provide training programmes for national and international candidates in the copyright industries and institutions.
It will vigorously pursue research and consultancy services and evaluation of specific projects on copyright information, dissemination and enforcement, qualitative analysis of governmental programmes bordering on copyright.The Institute will equip beneficiaries with relevant skills and knowledge required to strengthen and better manage the copyright system.
It will create awareness about Copyright matters through mass education.
The Institute will strengthen IP teaching in Nigerian Universities.
It will enlighten the public on how copyright works.

In view of the relevance of the teaching of IP at both local and international levels, it has been discovered that low level of IP knowledge is compounding the challenges facing Nigeria, like most developing countries. It is imperative that everyone needs sufficient awareness on the basic principles of IP, its importance and how it works.
