NCC Impounds N30 Million Broadcast Contrivances, Arrests Suspects

Officers of the Nigerian Copyright Commission recently seized a total of One Thousand, Eight Hundred and Thirteen (1,813) units of suspected contrivances used in pirating Multichoice Nigeria's Broadcast signal within some areas in Delta State.

The seizures valued at Thirty Million Naira (N30, 000, 000. 00) was made during a six day long antipiracy operation tagged "Operation Delta 2017" in eleven locations within; Warri, Ughelli, and Sapele areas of the State.

The operation was jointly carried out by Officers of the Commission in collaboration with representatives of Multichoice Nigeria, backed by Soldiers and armed mobile Policemen.

Director Enforcement, NCC Mr. Augustine Amodu who disclosed this in a report noted that the antipiracy raid carried out after several surveillance and investigation saw to the arrest of two suspected pirates.

The Director stated that the impounded items include: 174 decoders, 43 modulators, 39 remote controls, 27 satellite dishes, 1,500 boosters, tool kits, smart cards, a DVD player, game player and several caches of wires.

Mr. Amodu also noted that the officers used the occasion to sensitize the general public on the importance of patronising genuine Copyright owners, adding that piracy is illegal and a crime.
