NCC clamps down on Broadcast Pirates in Portharcourt, 3 Suspects Arrested

Operatives of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) in an offensive against the scourge of broadcast piracy in Rivers State have carried out anti-piracy operation against illegal broadcasters pirating on Copyright protected signals of Multichoice Nigeria in Portharcourt on September 13, 2017.

 According to the Director of Enforcement, NCC, Mr. Augustine Amodu who disclosed this in a statement in Abuja, the operation was carried out in Okuru-Ama Community and Oginigba Community in Trans Amadi areas in Portharcourt with the arrest of three (3) suspects; Awotoruuvwe Raphael, Reuben Toyo and Mugubi Godstime.

Contrivances used for the illegal redistribution of signals worth Five hundred and thirty Thousand Naira (N530, 000.00) were seized in both locations. The contrivances comprises of ;  Decoders (29 pcs),  Smartcards (13 pcs), LNB (5pcs), 1 Receiver, Amplifier (2pcs), 1 UHF Power supply, 1 Extension, Remote control (2pcs) and Modulator (2pcs).

The operation which was carried out based on the directive of the Director of Enforcement was executed by a team of Copyright Inspectors in collaboration with some staff of Multichoice backed up by Armed Mobile Policemen.

Arrested suspects were granted administrative bail while investigation is ongoing.
