Copyright Commission Clamps down on Broadcast Pirates in Yenagoa

Operatives of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) in its determination to minimize the scourge of broadcast piracy in the South-South region of Nigeria has carried out an anti-piracy raid in Yenogoa, Bayelsa State on May 12,2017 with the arrest of One (1) suspect.

The operation which was carried out in  Frankpanigha, a location in IgbogeneEpie and Ebisam Road in Akenfa , Yenagoa was executed by a team of Copyright inspectors in collaboration with Staff of Multichoice Nigeria and backed up by Armed Policemen.

According to Director of Enforcement, NCC, Mr. Augustine Amodu who disclosed this in a report at the Commission’s headquarter in Abuja, Contrivances used for illegal redistribution of DSTV broadcast cable signals  worth One million two hundred thousand (1,200,000) Naira were confiscated.

Items confiscated include 28 Decoders, 3 Amplifiers, 1 Television, 2 Stabilizers, 1 Standing fan and 11 Smartcards.

Mr. Amodu stated that the operation was carried out after strategic planning and surveillance by the Commission’s Copyright Inspectors.

Arrested suspect Mrs. Veronica Ziwari was granted administrative bail while investigation continues.
