According to the Zonal Manager, Lagos, NCC, Mr. Obi Ezeilo, the exercise is streamlined to ensure strict compliance with the copyright law vis a vis distribution and sales of books during the 2016 book season.
The Compliance inspection exercise was carried out by three (3) teams of Copyright Inspectors at Tejuosho, Yaba Book market, Kakawa – Lagos Island and Agege and Mushin areas respectively.
Bookshops visited in Tejuosho, Yaba includes; Waterson Bookshop, Abiodun Bookshop, Donnex Venture Bookshop, Abikoye Bookshop, KC Bookshop, Onye Don Bookshop and FC Nnaji Bookshop.
Likewise Kakawa Booksellers, God’s Heritage Book Centre, Elshaddai Bookshop, Ade – Ayoade Global Link & Co., Oyelagbawo Trading Co, were visited at Kakawa, Lagos Island.
Others Bookshops visited in Mushin are U. Bosco Bookshop, Marvellous Bookshop/Stationery, Stantech Bookshop, New Era Bookshop and Madojutimi Oluwa Bookshop.
While urging all booksellers and owners of bookshops to ensure full compliance with the copyright law as regards distribution and sales of books, he noted that some of the shops inspected are still being investigated.
While calling for the sustenance of the exercise across the States of the Federation, the Zonal Manager stated that although the compliance level is above average, a proactive approach is needed to boost the exercise.
