NCC Impounds 30 Million worth of Broadcast Materials in Enugu, Arrests 4

The Nigerian Copyright Commission, NCC in line with its sustained campaign against piracy has arrested 4 persons suspected of involvement in intellectual property theft of broadcast signals belonging to Multichoice Nigeria in different outlets located in Enugu State on March 21, 2014.

This information was revealed in a report sent by a Principal Copyright Officer, Mr Macfoy Akachukwu who led the NCC Enforcement team that carried out the raid. According to Mr Akachukwu, the suspects were apprehended following intelligence information provided by the anti-piracy Manager, Multichoice Nigeria, Mr Gozie Onumonu.

The report also disclosed that the suspected pirates were arrested at locations in Achara Layout, Uwani, Garki and Ogbete Market all  in Enugu State. Items recovered from the suspected pirates according to the report include: 17 dongles, 98 decoders, wires, 1 tool box, receipts, notebooks and 25 smart cards used in transmitting illegal signals to consumers.

Mr Akachukwu’s report shows that the following suspects were arrested during the raid: Donatus Offiah, a suspect’s father; Joy Ikem, a sales girl; Cecilia Okongwu suspect’s landlady and Uchenna Ezeodoli (Uche CNN).
