WIPO Chief Lauds NCC for Approving AVRS as CMO

The Nigerian Copyright Commission has been commended for the approval granted the Audiovisual Rights Society of Nigeria (AVRS) to function as the Collective Management Organisation (CMO) for Audiovisual works in Nigeria.

This commendation was conveyed in a letter dated January 6, 2015 to the Director-General NCC, Mr. Afam Ezekude by Mr. Francis Gurry, DG, World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

While congratulating the Commission for this giant stride which he described as a “welcome development”, Mr. Gurry applauded Mr. Ezekude’s efforts and personal contribution in the establishment of AVRS. He expressed optimism that the AVRS will be effective in the administration of the rights of audiovisual works in Nigeria in the nearest future.
