Copyright Commission Impounds N5 Million Infringing Materials, Arrests 8 Suspected Pirates

Eight suspected pirates were arrested by officers of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) in major areas around Kaduna Town, Kaduna State on July 22, 2015.

Following investigation and tip-off, operatives of the Commission carried out the anti-piracy operation that led to the confiscation of several units of suspected pirated literary works and optical disc (DVDs, VCDs, CDs) estimated at N5 Million (N5,000,000.00).

Director Enforcement of the Commission, Mr. Augustine Amodu who disclosed this in Abuja said some of the products seized included My Watch; Accidental Public Servant; October 1; 30 Days in Atlanta; Black November; and different Indian Films Translated into Hausa

He gave the names of those areested as Haris Idris, Umar Shuiabu, Sani Isah, Peter Igwe, Chukwudi Okoli, K.B. Suleiman, Mustapha Bauleap, and Destiny Bouleap.

According to him, inventory of items seized has since been taken and the suspected have been interrogated.

Mr. Amodu indicated that investigation on the operation continues with a view to ensuring prosecution of arrested suspects.
