NCC Arrest 4, Impounds N2.3 Million Worth Optical Discs

The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) have arrested four suspected Optical Discs pirates engaged in the unlawful production and commercial distribution of copyright protected works (CDs, VCDs  and DVDs) during an enforcement operation carried out in Enugu State.

Following an earlier surveillance, Copyright Inspectors backed by a contingent of armed Policemen impounded over 4,700 copies of suspected infringing video and musical CDs, DVDs and VCDs estimated at Two Million, Three Hundred Thousand Naira (N2300, 000, 000) in Garki, Obiagu and Asata areas of Enugu Metropolis on August 5, 2015.Director, Enforcement Department, Mr Augustine Amodu who disclosed this in a report in Abuja noted that the optical discs confiscated belong to different right owners.

He explained that the Commission has since commenced further investigation with the view to prosecute the arrested suspects and their accomplices across the country.While urging pirates to desist from the heinous act, Mr. Amodu gave assurance of the Commission's commitment to make life unbearable for pirates and the accomplice.

He further assured that the Commission is committed to full  implementation of its statutory mandate stressing that adequate policies have been put in place to create an enabling environment for the protection and development of legitimate copyright-based industries.
