N1.5 Million Infringing Gadgets Impounded in Abuja

OPERATIVES of Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) have clamped down on illegal broadcasters pirating the copyright protected signals of Multichoice Nigeria in Wuse 2 and Utako Districts of the FCT.

According to a report released at the NCC Headquarters, leader of the 4-man team that carried out the enforcement action on April 29, 2015, Mr. Peter Udomiaye, said the Commission reacted to a complaint laid by Multichoice bordering on unauthorized commercial reproduction and retransmission of DSTV signals.

Mr. Udomiaye further explained that certain suspected pirates were illegally reproducing and retransmitting DSTV copyright signals for a monthly N2, 000 subscription fee.

The team backed up by a team of police personnel stormed the target locations disconnecting and recovering several contrivances used for the illegal connections.

The report revealed that infringing contrivances recovered during the raid were as follows:

20 nos DSTV Decoders
20 nos DSTV smart cards
2 nos Dish receivers
1 squad LMB
1 GoTV Decoder
2 HP Laptops
5 nos Strong Decoders
1 DVB Decoder
4 nos Remote control
3 nos Agile DSB modulator
11 nos Power adaptors
3 nos DSTV Dish receivers
1 coil of wires
